Polichnitos is one of the most distinctive and historically rich main villages of southern Lesvos.
Stone-built mansions, narrow alleys with tall ground floors, and wooden balconies form a backdrop of tradition and elegance. The Church of Saint George stands out with its elaborate wooden iconostasis, while the Folklore Museum brings to life the everyday culture of past centuries.

The name “Polichnitos” derives from the many “polichnies” (small settlements) that gradually merged, each preserving its unique cultural identity.

The area is also renowned for its thermal springs—among the hottest in Europe—as well as its unique local festivals and traditions, such as the celebration of Prophet Elias.
