📍Plomari
Plomari, known as the “ouzo capital” of Greece, blends its seafaring roots, industrial legacy, and warm Lesvian hospitality into an unforgettable experience for every visitor.
🏛️ History & Culture
Built at the mouth of the Sedountas River, Plomari experienced rapid growth in the 19th century, becoming an important commercial and industrial hub of Lesvos. Residents of the nearby village Megalochori relocated here, taking advantage of its strategic seaside location. Plomari is home to notable museums, such as the Barbayannis Ouzo Museum and the Isidoros Arvanitis Ouzo Museum, both showcasing the history and tradition of ouzo distillation. Additionally, the Plomari Cultural Center, housed in a renovated soap factory, hosts exhibitions and events that highlight the region’s rich cultural heritage.
