📍 Agiasos
A living museum of folk art, spirituality, and nature — Agiasos is the soul of Lesvian tradition.
🏛️ History & Culture
Built on the slopes of Mount Olympus, Agiasos is one of the most unique villages of Lesvos. Its history is deeply connected to the founding of the Church of Panagia of Agiasos in the 9th century, which houses the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary—brought from Jerusalem, according to tradition, by the monk Agathonas.
The town’s architecture is unmatched: houses with distinctive sachnisi (bay windows), tiled roofs, cobblestone alleys, and intricately carved wooden balconies create a setting that feels like a scene from another era.
Agiasos is renowned for its traditional woodcarving and ceramics, with workshops still active today, keeping the craftsmanship of past generations alive.
