Lesvos Treasures: The people of Lesvos united to raise €15,000 in support of Dimitra
Lesvos united and made a small miracle. The joy of tradition and celebration became a bridge of solidarity and hope.
With emotion and pride, we announce the successful completion of our joint effort to support Dimitra, raising the amount of €15,000 needed for a surgical procedure that will aid her recovery and improve her quality of life.
This initiative was inspired by the Sardine Festival in Kalloni (August 1–3, 2025), which managed to unite organizations, businesses, and citizens, motivating them to support a common and meaningful cause.
Together, we achieved a small miracle!
This outcome is the most vivid proof that when Lesvos unites and stands in solidarity, side by side, it can work wonders. Cooperation, unity, and love for humanity were our guiding principles throughout this journey.
Dimitra was born prematurely and diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Despite the challenges, she has never stopped smiling and dreaming. Although she did not grow up in Lesvos, she loves the island deeply and visits it every year. For many years, she has traveled here to venerate the Archangel of Mantamados, who holds a special place in her heart. Her dream is to walk and continue visiting Lesvos, sharing her love for the island and its people.
On the initiative of Lesvos Treasures and its strategic supporters — iLysis, Kalloni Beach Villas, and Kalloni Sunset Villas — along with the swift mobilization and support of the Sardine Festival (with the valuable hospitality of Theofilos Myzikas) and the Kalloni Commercial Association (driven by the initiative of its president, Vangelis Chalkodaimon), the following amounts were raised:
Kalloni Commercial Association: €862
Sardine Stores (Sardine Festival): €500
Lesvos Treasures, iLysis, Kalloni Beach Villas, Kalloni Sunset Villas: €13,638
Support was expressed in every possible way — from participation in the special Lesvos Treasures game to contributions to the Kalloni Commercial Association’s donation box, as well as activities during the Sardine Festival and other local events.
Special mention goes to all collaborating organizations, businesses, and volunteers, as well as the Municipality of Western Lesvos for its support and tangible contribution.
Our next meeting with Dimitra is already scheduled for November 26th at IASO Hospital — a day that brings with it hope and a new beginning.
Dimitra, deeply moved, stated:
“I want to say a huge thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of you who stood by my side. Thanks to your love and support, I can now hope and continue my fight. It’s not just about the money — it’s the strength you gave me to believe that I am not alone. Thank you, and I love you all!”
Lesvos has once again proven that when strategic supporters, local organizations, businesses, and citizens come together, dreams can indeed become reality.
